I have a relative on moms side of family. Capt. S.B. Brown, commander of the 39th battalion of the Northern Virginia Army. Supposedly, he was in charge of R.E. Lee's security detail. I have a handwritten copy of a letter addressed to S.B. Brown relieving him and his troops from duty [general order#9]. It is very eloquently written from Gen. Lee. Unfortunately, our side of the family was not the side that got all the relics that I was mesmerised with as a child over 40 years ago. Sincerely, david w.
