Re: 51st Virginia's arrival date at Fort Donelson?

Ron,

The park library has a massive book entitled the Fort Donelson Source Book. This is made up of first person accounts and other sources from over the years and was done by the US Army in the early 20th Century. Fort Donelson did not become a park until the 1920s (same time frame as Stones River) and so the park markers probably used these sources for their history. I would suspect the Howard regimental history for this regiment might also have the time and date for you.

There were five steamboats that carried men and supplies between Nashville, Clarksville (where I live) and Donelson and when Floyd's Brigade arrived in Clarksville from Bowling Green, KY, they took these boats as space allowed. Buckner's Division was also sent this way to Donelson.

I live 28 miles from Fort Donelson and lead tours there all the time.
