I am working on my ancestry for the Whirley Family (also spelled Worley, Whorley, Wirley). Other names could be: Rutledge or Flowers. A descendent of this family was present at Appomattox when the surrender took place. He was at the famous Apple Tree and got a piece of the tree and carved a hand from it, which my family has, handed down from our father. The soldier would have been from Lunenburg County or Charlotte County, Virginia. I would greatly appreciate any information. Is there a roll available on-line? Or, would I have to go to Appomatox.
Thank you for any information.
