The Virginia in the Civil War Message Board

Liberty Hall Volunteers

Couple of notes for those of you interested in news of Civil War vets from Virginia. We have organized a new camp in Ladoga,IN which we have named the Dixie Grays after the unit of the same name of Co. K of the 42nd VA infantry. We are experiencing some growing pains, but have the names of 19 men on the list. One of our projects is erecting military stones in honor of Confederate vets buried in Montgomery County, IN. Some of you will remember that we have a list of about 65 men who spent a significant amount of time in Montgomery Co. At least 60 are buried here. One of those vets buried here is named John Henry Coffman, who was a member of the Liberty Hall Volunteers. You will remember that the LHV was the personal bodyguard for Stonewall Jackson for much of the war. On May 30, at 12:00 a reencactment group of the LHV based in Indianapolis will dedicate the stone with a 7 gun salute and remarks from their officers. Company I was reactivated in 1971 by the 4th Virginia Infantry, which included the Liberty Hall Volunteers. If any of you are in the area, feel free to drop by. It should be a memorable event.
