Thanks to everyone for their replies and information. As usual these message boards are loaded with a lot of information from alot of great people willing to share their knowledge. I have read some excerpts from Mr. Mays book as well as some comments made by other authors and historians. I will keep my opinion to myself on this, but I will say after reading Col. Austin's book, and knowing he was actually there, as of now I tend to go with his account of the battle itself. I am going to try to find the book "Southwest Va. in the Civil War" at local libraries, as this seems to be the most preferred version. I was actually looking for the details of the battle and the days leading up to it, and you gave me some great information. Again thanks to everyone on these boards and keep up the good work.
