Len - I'm researching a Russell County ancestor of my wife named Hiram C. Beverly. According to records at the National Archives, Hiram enlisted in the 29th Virginia Infantry on 18 December 1861. I believe this would have been at the very onset of recruitment for this regiment which was authorized in November 1861. Unfortuantely, it appears Hiram died within a short time period after enlisting and never actually joined his company. I was wondering if you have run across any information about such a person and / or have any suggestions about where to look for more defintive information about his demise. Based on the first 2 muster rolls for the the 29th VA Infantry, the first where he is marked "absent without leave" and the second where he is lsited as "died without joining company", I narrowed his death to between his enlistment date of 18 December 1861 and the end of the 2nd regimental muster roll period (31 January 1862 to 28 February 1862) with a likelihood that he probably died before the end of the first muster roll period (18 December 1861 to 31 January 1862). Any information or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
