Thanks for taking the time to write, Clinker. Man! What a web site you have there! I have bookmarked it to return, both to check out all of the photos (some of which are classics) and stir my blood with the music. (Your entry VA seal, by the way, reminded me of reading, in some novel, of two Confeds lulling betwwen battles, and one, looking at the flag, ciphering out "Sic...semper...tyranis. Wunder whut that means?" And his pal offers, "I think it must mean, git your foot off'n my chest!"

Dunnington isn't a kinsman, rather the subject of some research on the signal service -- he had evidently been detailed or transferred from the 23rd to signal duty late-war, and was in charge of the look-out on Signal Knob, aka Three-Top aka Pitman's Point on the Massanutton, overlooking Strasburg. Evidently shortage of food, among other factors, drove him to desert, and he "dumped core" in his interrogation -- unless (as we have to recall) he was ordered to desert, for whatever reason. I do not have an image of him (but also would like to). I'll keep your interest in mind as well. Kudos to the gang.
