Re: Capt Jackson's Co. VA Horse Artillery

Bryan,

Capt. Thomas E. Jackson's Charlottesville Horse Artillery Battery was a reorganization of the exchanged Kanawha Artillery which had been captured at Fort Donelson, Tennessee in Feb., 1862. It's first assignment after its reorganization was to Jenkins' Cavalry Brigade during the Gettysburg campaign. Next it was assigned to the Horse Artillery Battalion, Cavalry Corps, Army of Northern Virginia for the months of July and August, 1863. Afterward it was assigned as unattached artillery to the Dept. of Western Virginia, from the Fall of 1863 until the Spring of 1864, it's main assignment as part of Ransom's Cavalry Division. After this it was part of Lomax's Cavalry Division, Valley District, Dept. of Northern virginia for the remainder of the war. It was never attached to any single regiment.
