1920 Federal Census seems to show William A. Deatherage, age 76, Farmer, born in North Carolina, living in Mayo River, Patrick County, Virginia.
Also shows John A. Deatherage, age 33, farmer; wife Mandy, age 27; son Albert age 10, daughter Nammie age 7, daughter Letty S. age 5, daughter Lottie V. age 3 and son William E. age 1.

I am not finding any connection with an Elizabeth Pickle and William Deatherage.
There was an Elizabeth Pickle b abt 1832 in Alabama, died 1912, daughter of Henry Pickle, 1807 NC - 1881, MS, and Lavinia Ray, 1809-1880; grandaughter of Jacob Pickle, 1766 NC-1850 MS, and Catherine Berry, 1785 NC-1850 Attala, MS. She married Valentine Oliver Camp, 1834-1894

Don't know if this helps or not.
