I just found my gr.gr. grandfathers civil war headstone,i want to know where i can find when and where he was discharged from the service. He was listed in co I 33 INF OF VIRGINA OCT.24 1848. HE was also listed as a deserter,can this be if the war dept. gave him a stone.
