I would suggest you obtain a copy of "Bluegrass Confederate, The Headquarters Diary of Edward O. Guerrant," Edited by William C. Davis and Meredith L. Swentor, Louisiana State University Press, Baton Rouge, 1999.
I happened upon this last November and found it to be a great read which features operations centering in and around SW Virginia.
