Response to Johnny Reb,
Thank you for the response. I am looking for actual service verification on Joseph Chappell Hutcheson, my Great-grandfather, who by family accounts enlisted in the 21st Vir. Inf. Reg. as a private at age 18/19 in 1861, was reassigned to the 14th (date unknown to me and would like to find out), and was promoted to company commander of Co.E 14th Inf. Reg. after Battle of Dinwiddie Court House 3/31/1865 by Maj. William Shelton. Army and Gov on the run by April 2, 1865, so doubt the promotion was recorded with gov records. Reputedly he was parolled at Appomattox; however, can't find name on the rolls. Some copys of the rolls seem to have fewer names than the reported originals. I read that Grant received a copy as well as Lee. Don't know if those are independently accessible for research to see if his name appears there-Do you know?
Where did you find the J.C. Hutcheson private lieutenant source-original or post report?
