Re: Pvt James Johnson, Co G, 17th VA Inf

Steve,

Our Confederate records specialist is a man named Alan Pitts. Alan has access to the all of the microfilmed Confederate service records through Wallace State College outside of Birmingham, AL. He has access to the state Confederate pension records through this same repository at Wallace State; however, the states of Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia are not included in this collection. You can; however, access the Confederate pensions applied for from Virginia ONLINE! Go to this link http://ajax.lva.lib.va.us/F/?func=file&file_name=find-b-clas10&local_base=CLAS10 and you can search for and display images of all the Virginia Confederate pensions. This is an outstanding resource and apparently not well-known. The state of Florida also has their Confederate pensions online.

Happy Hunting and yes, if you'd take a look at any records you have available to you for Benjamin Franklin Field, Stephen Field or Catherine Howard, his parents I'd certainly appreciate it. Also, if you have access to marriage records, I've never been able to find his marriage record, probably around 1866 or 67 to Georgianna HAYDEN? We're not sure if this is her last name, so the marriage record might prove it, for sure.

Thanks again,

Jim
