I have seen reference to an incident that occurred in 1864 during a period when a part of the 16th returned home to Wayne County in what is now West Virginia. It seems that the men of the 16th encountered Union raiders near their homes and sustained quite a few casualties just a few miles from their homes. I can't find anything on this. Does anyone know anything about this?
