“Brooke Station” (based upon my research, I believe this is the correct spelling) was north of Fredericksburg near Aquia Creek. It was the last railroad station between Fredericksburg and Aquia Creek Station on the Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac Railroad.

During the Confederate Blockade of the Potomac River (see “The Confederate Blockade of Washington, DC”, by Mary Alice Wills and “Strategem 1861” by Robert H. C. Alton), Brooke Station was at least two things for the Confederate Army. First, it was the headquarters for General T. H. Holmes, commanding the Aquia District of the Department of Northern Virginia. If you check the OR you will find that General Holmes’ correspondence is sent from Brooke Station (with variations on the spelling of Brooke). Holmes’ command included two brigades that manned the Aquia, Evansport, and Shipping Point batteries along the Potomac River and a third brigade on Virginia's Northern Neck peninsula. Second, Brooke Station was a major debarkation point for troops moving north on the Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac Railroad. Several Confederate units moving north from Richmond disembarked the trains at Brooke Station and marched north to Dumfries and Evansport. (See “Red Clay to Richmond”, by John J.
