Since vests were not a issue item the correct one would be the one you bought or was sent from home. Usually military style vests were obtained by officers who had to buy their own uniforms. That being said, one sent from home could be of that pattern or civilian pattern. Confederate uniforms were a mixture of issue and home / civilian supplied items, depending on how well the supply system was functioning at the time.
