Loss of Sorel's Ga. Brigade Hatcher's Run

"Sunday evening, [Feb. 5th] with only a few minutes warning, our enti9re division was moving towards our right. Late in the afternoon, the enemy was met in small force and driven from the field with a very slight loss to us. One member of my company was slightly wounded.

About twelve o'clock on Monday [Feb. 6 1865] our Division received orders to return to camp. They came within a mile of our quarters, when they were ordered back and met the enemy about seven miles distant. Our brigade, indeed the Division, are said to have acted with unprecedented gallantry driving the enemy from every point, capturing their entire works. The entire loss of the brigade will reach near eighty or one hundred. About seventy five were wounded and ten or twelve killed. Out of this number forty were wounded from our Regt. and five or six killed."
