Sherman, the boxer

As a boxer, Sherman would have avoided the boxing ring altogether. Instead he would have invaded his opponent's neighborhood with his gang of thugs. Unable to find fields of wheat or oats, they'd have burned everyone's lawn. Since there were no barns, they'd have burned the garages with the cars inside and the sheds with lawnmowers and bags of fertilizer. In the absence of livestock he'd had killed the dogs and cats. If he had been in a really bad mood Sherman would have encouraged his thugs to burn everyone's house. In his memoirs Sherman would have proudly claimed he had won the boxing match without even entering the ring. His admiring biographers would have styled his approach "the indirect approach to boxing."
