POW 1862 - 1863

It looked straightforward!
Edgar Daniel Boone enlists in 1st Louisiana Infantry in New Orlean on 28th April 1861 (An English seaman)
Deserts after the battle of Seven Pines/Fair Oaks on 12th June 1862

Released on Oath of Allegiance from Ft. Monroe, Va., Nov. 5th, 1863. Res. Richmond,
Va. Complexion light, hair light, eyes blue, height 5 ft. 11 3/4 in. Remarks: Rebel Deserter
came into our lines near Strasburg, Va.

The physical description fits Edgar perfectly, but then I found a record of his marriage in Lynchburg on 4th March 1863 to Eliza Ann Simpson.

Would he have been on 'day release' and able to go courting? If anyone can throw some light on this sequence of events and what was happening at the time it would be appreciated.
