Charles Schminkey, Private, Captain Marmaduke Johnson’s Company, Light Artillery, Walker’s Art/y./Capt. V. J. Clutter’s Co. Arty’y, McIntosh’s Batt’n of Artillery, enlisted March 13, 1862 at Richmond by Captain Johnson for the war, receipted for issues of clothing March 31, April 29 & May 1, 1864, signing as Charles Schinky/Shminke/Schminke, last recorded present at the February 28, 1865 muster, surrendered and paroled April 9, 1865 at Appomattox Court House, Va.

Captain Clutter’s (formerly Captain Marmaduke Johnson’s) Company Virginia Light Artillery was organized March 18,1862. It served in various battalions of field artillery which were composed of independent batteries from various States. Captain Fleet’s Company Virginia Light Artillery was disbanded by S. O. No. 209, Hdqrs. Army of Northern Virginia, dated October 4, 1862, and part of the men were assigned to this company. Some men from Captain Motley’s Company Virginia Light Artillery were also transferred to this company in 1862.
