Re: Daniel Easley, John S., and William Easley

This was a large family who, as often happens, liked to recycle given names. According to the family trees in which he appears as a brother of Daniel B. and our ancestor John S., William H. was born about 1816 and was a Capt. in 3rd Va. Cav. He survived the war, was a merchant and was appointed postmaster in 1867. He died in 1882. What is puzzling is that the trees often refer to him as Col. I can only assume that this was an honorary title or that he was promoted late in the war and it never made the official records. Of my children's 16 GGG Grandfathers, 12 were in the prime age eligible range for service in the war. All 12 served. The John S. who you helped identify as serving in the reserves in his late 40's is, I believe, our ancestor which gives us 13 out of 16 with the others still possible in reserve or home guard units where record keeping was poor. Thanks for all you do. Mike Lee, Lynchburg, Va.
