OS [1st Sgt.] T. H. Towner being mortally wounded in the battle of Kernstown & left in the hands of the enemy,* had in his possession all the books & Co. papers owing to which circumstances we are unable to give the number of marches, distances, scouts, etc.

* Wounded March 23, died at Winchester March 26, 1862
