In Response To: Joseph J. Batt ()

Joseph J. Batt, Private, Company B, 2nd Regiment Virginia Infantry, captured September 17, 1862 at South Mountain, Md., sent for exchange from Fort Delaware, Del., to Aikens Landing, Va., October 2, 1862, declared exchanged November 10, 1862, no other records

Note, he must have mustered into Company B sometime after their June 13, 1862 muster where he was not recorded. It appears he did not return to duty as muster rolls continue through April, 1864

………..

John T. Batt, Private, Company B, 12th Regiment Virginia Infantry, paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia April 9, 1865, recorded as in Richmond, Va. April 17, resident of Halifax, Va.

His records contain correspondence between the Adjutant General, War Department with Mrs. Robert Bachman, 4700 Hudson Ave., S. E., Washington 2, D. C., dated 3 May 1950

Note, he does not appear on any of the surviving muster rolls for Company B, the last being that dated October 31, 1864. I would therefore suspect that he was a Conscript, enlisting sometime later when he reached the age of 17
