John Justice, 2nd Lieutenant, Captain George Avis’ Company No 4, 129th Regiment Virginia Militia,* enlisted September 27, 1861 at Logan C. H. by Col. Jn Dejernalt [sp?], present at the muster for the period September 27 to November 13, 1861, not dated, no other records

Note: There are no other muster rolls on record for this company

* Most of the members of this company formerly served in Captain Chambers’ Company of this regiment.

……..

John Justice, Private, Company H, 1st Regiment Virginia Infantry (Williams Rifles), “Rebel Deserter, ”swore Oath of Allegiance to the United States, May 26, 1865 at Charleston, West Virginia, 29 year old Farmer, 6’ 1”, dark complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, resident of Logan County, West Virginia

Note: As he does not appear on a Company H muster roll, the last muster taking place August 31, 1864, I suspect that he enrolled in the regiment sometime after that date. Suspect he was able to avoid the Conscripting Officers up to that time, enrolled, then deserted at the first opportunity.
