I have been researching this family looking for John J. Lampee Jr who may be his brother. The 1860 Smyth Co. Virginia census has Joseph H. and John J living with parents John J Lampe Sr 1802 - 1891 and Racheal Crow Lampe 1813 - 1891. John J. was in the 23rd Infantry and died November 6, 1863 at Droop Mountain. I have found this name spelled Lampee, Lampe, Lampy and Lampre. Let me know if you have found anything else so I can also tie this family together. John J. Sr is in the 1870 and 1880 Smyth Co census.
