THE ARRESTED LADIES IN WASHINGTON
The Administration at Washington continues its arrests of ladies suspected of Secession sympathies. It can now boast among its prisoners the wives of ex-members of Congress, ex-clerks in the Departments, the wives and relatives of officers and soldiers in both the Federal and Confederate armies, boarding-house keepers, ladies of wealth and refinement, ladies in the humbler walks of life, and female servants of all grades. A large house has been rented in Washington for the confinement of the ladies. Its garden is surrounded by a high brick wall, which will prevent their escape.
Mrs. Greenhow, one of the arrested, is a sister of Mrs. Senator Douglas’s mother...."
