…………………………………………………………………………………….

John F. Johnson, Private, Capt. James C. Note, there are two subsequent muster rolls on record for Company I, October 31, 1864 and December 31. As he is not recorded, it appears he had been dropped from the rolls sometime previously. This could have been because of transfer, capture, death, desertion, etc.

* This company was known at various times as Capt. Campbell’s Company, and as Company C and Company I, 48th Virginia Infantry

……………………

John F. Johnson, Private, Company C, 22nd Regiment Virginia Cavalry, recorded at the October 31, 1864 muster as absent, absent without leave since October 12, 1864, no other records

Note, there are but two Company C muster rolls in the records, one dated October 31, 1863, the other October 31, 1864. This would indicate John would have enlisted sometime during the intervening period. With no later muster rolls, we cannot ascertain his subsequent service
