Ambrose West, 31 year old Waterman, Private, Captain K. Perrin’s Company (Gloucester Invincibles), 26th Regiment Virginia Infantry,* enlisted from the 21st Regiment Virginia Militia, Gloucester County, mustered into the service of the State of Virginia, April 20, 1861 at Rowes Store, mustered into service May 10, 1861 at Gloucester Point, the regiment was accepted into the Confederate service July 1, 1861, recorded absent on the Sept/Oct, 1861 muster roll as Detailed by Quarter Master to go in vessel, remaining so through the end of year, reenlisted for the war February 25, 1862, recorded the end of June as absent without leave, recorded on August 31, 1863 as absent on furlough, admitted General Hospital No. 9, Richmond, Va. September 12, 1863, recorded present October 31, detailed on guard duty, HQ, Wise’s Brigade, S. W. Va., December 1, 1863 and January 7, 1864, receipted for an issue of clothing June 1, 1864, killed in Petersburg trenches July 11, 1864

David West was married to Mary Susan Sparrow and enlisted in Co. F on April 20, 1861, at the age of 29. He returned to faith on July 17, 1863. He was killed in the trenches near Petersburg, VA on October 11, 1864.

Ambrose West (brother to David) enlisted in Co. F on April 20, 1861, at the age of 30. He was baptized on July 22, 1863, and was killed in action on July 11, 1864, in Petersburg, VA.
