My opinion is this: RD II jacket is fine. Getting one that is patterned correctly from proper material and period workmanship is somewhat costly but IMO worth it. Dark gray trousers are also OK but would go with naturally dyed jean or satinet which will lighten up in color as your wear them. The originals did this also. CSA buckles were more of a western theater item that were not common in Va. I would go with a plain iron roller buckle belt which was very common in 1864. Wooden canteen is OK but not very common in 1864. See my canteen page http://www.angelfire.com/ma4/j_mayo/cscanteen.html for some examples. For a haversack you could use a tarred federal or canvas CS one. After the overland campaign in 1864 there were many Confederates using Union equipment. One other word of advice, get the best uniform you can afford. I have seen many people buy inexpensive jackets and trousers only to put them into storage when they decide they want a more authentic uniform. A authentic uniform will also give you a degree of comfort that the cheap repros do not provide. If you need help finding vendors contact me off forum.
