Benjamin West, Private, Company A (Lt. Landon M. Davie’s Co.), 21st Regiment Virginia Militia, enlisted October 19, 1861 at Turtle Neck, company A was located at Gloucester Pt. December 31, recorded on February 28, 1862 as absent, detailed on vessel on York River to Q. M. Dept., Yorktown November 7, no further records

Note, he was not recorded on the subsequent May 14, 1862 muster roll

The 21st Regiment Virginia Militia was called into service by proclamation of the Governor or Virginia, dated July 13, 1861, and was mustered into service October 19, 1861, by Colonel Crump. It was disbanded May 15, 1862, by order of Maj. Gen. Hill, and the men distributed month the other regiments.
