Junius Levert Powell, Private, Captain Wm. P. Palmer’s Company (1st Co. Howitzers), Virginia Light Artillery,* enlisted April 21, 1861 at Richmond by Capt. Randolph for one year, discharged October 24, 1862, appointed a Sergeant in Signal Corps, he is shown as on Signal Corps duty as late as November 10, 1864, captured January 19, 1865, on board the prize steamer “Stag”, off Smithville, North Carolina, arrived at Fortress Monroe, February 2, 1865, released on oath May 29, 1865 at Point Lookout, Maryland.

Note: Not quite 18 when he enlisted per his father

His records include correspondence between the Adjutant General, War Department and Miss Adele C. Powell, Washington, D. C., dated June 14, 193/5?4, citizen of Nova Scotia, son of Dr. G. ? Powell, M. D.

* This company was successively designated as Captain Shields’ Company, Captain Palmer’s Company, Captain McCarthy’s Company, and Captain Robert M. Anderson’s Company Virginia Light Artillery (1st Company Richmond Howitzers)
