John D. Myrick, Captain, Capt. John D Myrick’s Company (Baltimore Artillery), Virginia Vols.*, enrolled for active service June 5, 1861 at Norfolk,

* This company subsequently became Company B, 9th Regiment Virginia Infantry.

The 9th Regiment Virginia Infantry was organized July 7, 1861 with ten companies, A to K, which had previously been accepted into the service of the Confederate States. Prior to the organization of this regiment and while in the service of the State of Virginia some of these companies had taken part in an ineffective attempt to form an artillery regiment.
