Douthat's Company, Light Artillery (Botetourt Artillery)*, died of disease at Vicksburg June 27, 1863**, his file contains a reference to correspondence between the Adjutant General, War Department, with the Georgia State Commissioner of Pensions***, dated September 22, 1916 regarding cause of death in which was recorded "nothing additional found," no further records
* This company was successively designated as Captain Anderson's, Captain Johnson's and Captain Douthat's Company Virginia Light Artillery.
** Note: June 27 is the date of death listed in his Compiled Service Record File, July 3 is most likely in error and taken from old burial records
