I've been searching for information on my great great grandfather, William E. Thompson, Wayne County, WV. His pay records (Footnote/Fold3)end at April 1863, Co. K, 15th VA Cavalry. He is buried at Finn's Point National Cemetery, where the records state Co. G, 16th Cavalry, but both groups were commanded by Jeb Stuart, and I assume that he either volunteered or was assigned for Gettysburg. Despite the fact that she died many many years later, and had small children, his wife, who never remarried, did not file a pension request that I can find.
ANy ideas on where to look for additional records would be appreciated. I wrote to the Ft. Delaware Society, and am awaiting a response to see what their records hold. But, somewhere there must be a record of his capture, notifying his wife of his death... etc.
I understand your comment about history texts. On my mother's side of the family, my research has led me to a lot of Revolutionary War research. The majority of battles were fought in the Mohawk Valley area of NY. One source claims 268 battles comprised the Revolution, and 92 were fought in NY. Yet, history texts do not reflect this fact.
Thanks.
