There are many original images of soldiers wearing a type I RD jacket with matching trousers. Some may have gotten their uniforms under the commutation system where they had some control over what they were getting. What I am saying is that it would not be unusual for an early war uniform to have matching trousers. Later in the war when fabric was being received by the depot from many sources, the soldier got what was issued no matter what the color.

The cadet gray color may be a problem. That color was usually found on officer uniforms which were usually made of a finer material (usually wool). Most enlisted shell jackets were made of satinet, jean wool or cassimere. All of these materials are a cotton/wool blend just woven differently.
