There are six Balls in Co. "G" of this command. This company was the "Lee Rangers", Capt. Thomas S. Gibson, enlisting at Rose Hill, Va., Sept. 27, 1862. Members mustered at Max Meadows, Va., Nov. 17, 1862.

Original members of this command included Moses, George J. and William S. Ball. Moses and William S. Ball were absent on leave, April 1863.

George J. Ball was absent on detail, Aug. 1863, and captured on Feb. 20, 1864. Sent to Camp Chase OH, he was released at Fort Delaware, Del., June 8, 1865.

Moses Ball was captured by the Claiborne County Home Guard on Apr. 11, 1864, and sent to prison. He was released for exchange at Point Lookout, Md., Feb. 1865.

William S. Ball was wounded on Oct. 13, 1864, and sent to a hospital at Staunton, Va. He was paroled on Apr. 28, 1865.

George W. Ball and Philip M. Ball enlisted at Rose Hill on June 10, 1863. Both were AWOL in Aug. 1863, and eventually paroled on Apr. 28, 1865.

Timothy Sullins Ball enlisted at Rose Hill on Sept. 20, 1863. He was killed at Kernstown, Va., July 23, 1864.

For much of its career this command operated as the 27th Virginia Cavalry Battalion, serving in east Tennessee, north Alabama and north Georgia, as well as southwestern Virginia.
