Hello Roy,

Are you a descendant of Matthew Fielding Locke?

My uncle's name was Maurice Locke Snider. I asked my cousin recently where the "Locke" came from. He said his Dad was named after a "Texas politician". I googled that information and came up with Matthew Fielding Locke. This must be the right person. During the Civil War he fought in the 10th Texas Cavalry, as did our great-grandfather, William F. Snider. Snider was in Company D, and I don't know that they knew each other. The family probably just admired Mr. Locke. I assume Wikipedia is wrong to refer to him in one heading as "Matthew Francis Locke". I guess somebody didn't proofread.

Happy diggin'!
