Thank you, I will check this out. However; in further research this morning he may have been transported to Houston and stayed there rather than going on to New Orleans. While in Houston the prisoners of the Harriet Lane were held in a "cotton press near the Buffalo Bayou". In reading accounts that these men were taunted by locals and that they were also given furlough to "roam the city", it too coincides with family stories. Any idea what the name of this cotton press? I still can not find rosters of the prisoners taken from the Harriet Lane....just those of the Massachussets 42nd who were with them.
