Captain J.P. Speir, born March 15, 1840 & died July 23, 1912 is buried at Old Snow Hill cemetery near Furman, Wilcox County, AL. Source: cemetery survey.

Speir enlisted 4/24/1862 at Galveston and served with Co. B, 25th Texas Cavalry. His wife, Mary A. Speir filed for a Confederate Widow's Pension on 12/01/1920. She lived at Furman. Source: Alabama Civil War Soldiers & Sailors Index, Alabama Dept. Archives & History. (via internet)
