Re: 4thTX Militia, State Troops

Mr. Williams,
Thank you for your kind response. In digging, I found that the 4th Texas Militia State troops were drawn from not only Panola, but Shelby and Sabine counties as well. I have not,as yet, contacted the historical societies in those areas, but it may pan out with diligence on our parts. I try to get lists of hitorical societiesin cities and counties and work from there. Haven't run into any reenactors 'doing' 4th Texas militia either. (I reenact as a SgtMjr in the Louisiana Zouaves {Coppens'not Wheat's} )
Will keep this site in mind if I run onto any information.
BTW, I was in contact with the SCV out of Abilene a year or so ago, they sent me photos of the Battle Flag on Gen. Sayles' grave marker. He'd have been a cousin to my GGgrandfather...
14 other Sayles men fought in blue according to a family history in 2 volumes....one claimed to have been Grant's orderly, claimed to have pulled a gun on a doctor who was going to amputate his leg. Haven't sent for his service record at NARA yet, but would like to 'check his oil' , if you know what I mean. He'd've gotten court-martialed for pulling a pistol on a doctor... Thanks again for your response.
Take care, Don
