Re: Capt. John Guynes

According to an article in The Camden News in June, 1836, as reported in The Sandyland Chronicle, Guynes was brought to Camden for the execution, and the deed took place on the bank of the Ouachita River. Guynes had been court martialed because he considered the order to the Texans to cross the Mississippi River to be unlawful because his troops had enlisted for the defense of Texas only.
