re: Request for a Picture of Col. James T. (Thaddeus) Wheeler. Portrait photograph is in the text at this article:

It it the next picture after the photograph of Gen. Joseph Wheeler midway down in the article.

It is also posted at FindAGrave.com:

(Note there appears to be a relationship between Ancestry.com and findagrave.com, but the findaagrave.com site is open and accessible.)

I found this on genealogy site posted as documentation. Also in this article while searching unit information for 1st, 4th, 6th (1st) and 11th Tennessee Cavalry. The 6th (aka 1st - this is what is confusing) Tenn. Cavalry Regiment has some of the most confusing in the war and like many units was reassigned and moved around under various CSA Army Commands, i.e., Gens. Bragg, Forest, Joe Wheeler.

Col. Wheeler was from Giles County, where elements of 1st/6th Tenn. Cavalry were formed, and this is where he returned after the war farming until his death in 1887. A short history of the 1st/6th Tenn. Cavalry Regiment is here:
https://sites.rootsweb.com/~tngiles/cvlwar/cavalry.htm

I found the information on a damaged handwritten note in a bible belonging to his daughter-in-law, my paternal great grandmother indicating the last payment from Tenn. CSA pension was in 1938 which I presume was to a surviving son William "Willie" Lot Wheeler who died in 1938. Col Wheeler's wife died in 1888 a year after him. His wife, Sallie Bass Malone Wheeler, is buried in the same cemetery in unmarked grave. The note also referenced "Wheeler's Cavalry" but was not completely legible as to unit information. There are also records for Mexican War service connection online also. He originally served as I understand in the 11th Tenn. Cavalry CSA circa 1861, and enlisted in the Tennessee 1st Mounted Infantry in the Mexican War. 1846 to 1848 (from war records).
