Re: Confederate Naval Works of Goose Creek

Hi Carol:

Its interesting that Gen. Walker ordered Thos Chubb to use a dredger to allow a hull drawing 5 feet 9 inches to reach Buffalo Bayou and be towed to Lynchburg where Chubb was Superintendent of Repairs for the Quartermaster Department. It did make the point that it was preferred that the TBs machinery be on board. Walker explained the reason for the order was a desire to see that the TB would not be bottled up in the shipyard if Union forces penetrated the Bay.
