Samuel S. Weatherly, Private, Company I, 5th Texas Infantry, enlisted March 28,1862 at Independence/Wash. Co., Tex. for the war, sent to rear, in sick camp, July 1, 1862, left sick at Richmond August 7, returned to duty October 23, 1862, admitted General Hospital, Charlottesville, Va. December 9, Debility, returned to duty next day**, present at end of year muster, sent to hospital January 1, 1863, died at Lynchburg, Va. March 24, 1863, Febris Typhoides, his father John A. Weatherly receipted for his pay accounts***, description on enlistment: 28 year old Farmer, born in Alabama, blue eyes, dark hair, fair complexion, 5’ 10”

** Regularly discharged from the Hospt. in Lynchburg & was on his way to his Regt. but the central cars being too much crowded for him to get on, he was left there for one day, & then returned to duty (over) [next card missing]

*** Pay from January 1, 1863, when last paid till March 25, 1863 the date of his death
