Re: Pvt.William Davis, Artillery unit Waul's Texas

Hello Dennis, That's the information I was looking for...Thank you. My ggrandfather Pvt Vernon H. Lockley last official muster entry was on March 12,1863 which stated that he was on detached duty herding beeves for his company(Co.A,Willis Cavalry Battalion, Waul's Texas Legion.) I was told that he was a substitute for Wm.Davis, but I wasn't 100% positive about the details until now....... Also that he died on March 16,1863 in Warren County,Miss(Vicksburg) at age 37....I don't know whether he died in an accident, disease or in action, only that he died in the war..I don't even know where he might be buried.
