J.W.Speight 1863 Records

I have been researching and reading about J. W. Speight during 1863. It is important because (if I am reading correctly) Spaight's 11th Battalion, Co. E was placed under Speight's command. This is my GrGfather's company. This is the year some trouble's pop up (absent, under arrest, finally Deserted).

The challenge I face is reading conflicting data on J.W. Speight's whereabouts, commands, and etc. I read a few first hand accounts, some military letters/records and get confused.

I will say this, if I read correctly- OMG - these men suffered (not that thousands didn't) from freezing harsh conditions without rest, clothes, shoes, and food and well as sickness.

Can you point me to some other sources? I did learn and to search in this post and that is a very cool tool.

Thanks, as usual - I love this blog!!!
