The army during the war was followed by a long line of wagons hauling every kind of supply that an army would need to stay on the march, they could stretch out for miles. Items being hauled could cover personal items, camping equipment, armament, ammunition, and food supplies, among other things. This line of wagons were often called a baggage train and of course the men driving these wagons were known as teamsters. The extra duty comes in when a teamster was detached from his normal duties and sent on a special mission or duty.
