Re: Additions to my book, "Confederate Colonels"

Sir: I am trying to trace a Colonel James L Bowen, supposedly from a Virginia regiment, and an engineer. My curiosity arises from his headstone in Victoria Lawn cemetery here in St. Catharines Ontario Canada. He came to Canada after the war, was a successful merchant and registered lawn owner. As St. Catharines was a hot-bed of Confederate espionage, the southern cause was probably more understood here than most parts of Canada. Robert E Lee's wife was here before the war, and after, we had a visit from Mary Todd Lincoln. Throw in Clement Clay, Jacob Thompson, John Brown, Jefferson Davis Jubal Early, General Breckinridge, all here, as temporary residents or visitors making the CW part of our history. Any help in tracing Colonel Bowen is appreciated.

Regards.
