Thanks George - I have seen some of this info from the Columbus Library website.

South Jones (7. South Jones - third sergeant) is my great grandfather.

One of his cousins, Riley Scherer, listed here with the 13th (59. R. L. Scherer) , ended up in Hood's Brigade (Scherer, Riley L., Pvt., Co. B, 5th Texas Infantry) and was killed at Eltham's Landing in Virginia (also referred to as West Point). I would like to know how/why he changed organizations.

Also, I am looking for info on the general organization of the Texas State Troops. Were they organized after secession but before Confederate military units were established, or did they exist prior to the war, acting as rangers or some such?
