Re: Texans with Forrest-Capt N C Gould

Hello Mic, Your project dies seem worthy of research. Using google enter books and then enter "The Story of Camp Chase" Look at the bottom of page 80 and the top of page 81. There you will see a reference to the "Dallas News" in regards to M.L. Sims.

What you stated is correct about Gould, as my memory was starting to come back.

There were a total of four black Confederates who died at Camp Chase and one Native American Indian whom I believe was Choctaw. There were about 30-40 blacks held as prisoners at Camp Chase in April and May of 1862. The remaining blacks were released to the city of Columbus, in May of 1862. However they were released at the rate of 2 or three at a time if fear of putting too many locals out of work. It appears some joined the USCT's later in the war. I have a complete roster of the blacks at Camp Chase but it is extremely difficult to read. From what I remember they only mention their ages and given names.

No promises as I always seem to run out of time, but if I do have a few extra minutes at the National Archives ,I will try and locate the roster in question.
